Maureen A. McMahon, MD, is a professor of medicine/rheumatology and is currently the associate chief of rheumatology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She is a graduate of the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago and completed a residency in internal medicine at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center (now known as Rush University Medical Center) in Chicago, where Dr McMahon served as chief resident in medicine. She completed a fellowship in rheumatology and earned a master’s degree in clinical research at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

Dr McMahon's research and clinical work have focused on identifying new treatments for systemic lupus erythematosus. She has also focused on ways to identify patients with lupus who are at risk for accelerated atherosclerosis and damage accrual, as well as the discovery of molecular targets for therapeutic interventions. She has authored more than 50 manuscripts related to lupus and other autoimmune diseases, and she has participated in multiple National Institutes of Health– and industry-sponsored clinical trials and research studies.
