Stephen D. Silberstein, MD, FACP

Stephen D. Silberstein, MD, FACP, is an emeritus professor of neurology and director of the Headache Center at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA, one of the few academic centers in the country.

Dr Silberstein is involved with migraine research and clinical trials, and he is the author of more than 500 peer-reviewed publications. A November 2025 Frontiers in Neurology article reported that Dr Silberstein achieved the highest average citations in the migraine field. He is the senior editor of the 8th and 9th editions of Wolff’s Headache and Other Head Pain and a current or prior editorial board member for CNS Drugs; Headache; Cephalalgia; Acta Neurologica Scandinavica; the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychology; and Topics in Pain Management.

He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Neurology, and the American Headache Society (AHS). Dr Silberstein has served as president and treasurer of the AHS and as a member of the AHS Board of Directors. He is the 2016 AHS Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, is the 2024 Headache Cooperative of the Northeast Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, and was named an honorary member of the International Headache Society in 2023. He is also chairman of the World Federation of Neurology Headache Research Group and president of the Philadelphia Headache Society.
