David Rimm, MD, PhD, is the Anthony N. Brady Professor of Pathology in the departments of pathology and medicine (medical oncology) at the Yale School of Medicine, where he is also director of Yale Pathology Tissue Services and the Lab for Quantitative Diagnostics in Anatomic Pathology, a College of American Pathologists (CAP)/Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) laboratory.


Dr Rimm completed his MD and PhD at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, followed by a pathology residency at Yale and a cytopathology fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia.


His research laboratory group focuses on quantitative pathology using QuPath software (Qymia tool for molecular compartmentalization) and other quantitative methods, with projects related to predicting response and resistance to both targeted therapy and immunotherapy in cancer. Dr Rimm’s laboratory is involved in the use of new high-plex methods, including digital spatial profiling for new biomarker discovery. He is also focused on the translation of assays to the clinic and the standardization of those assays for CLIA laboratories. The work is supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and sponsored research agreements with biopharma. He also serves on multiple scientific advisory boards for biotech and pharma companies.


Dr Rimm is the author of more than 550 peer-reviewed papers, with an h-index of 140 and 9 patents.
