Komal Jhaveri, MD, FACP, FASCO, is an associate attending physician in the Breast Medicine and Early Drug Development Services at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY. She serves as section head of the Endocrine Therapy Research Program within the Breast Medicine Service. Dr Jhaveri is also an associate professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine and the recipient of the Patricia and James Cayne Chair for Junior Faculty.
Dr Jhaveri earned her medical degree from the University of Mumbai, where she also completed training in nuclear medicine. She subsequently completed her internal medicine residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (Morningside/Mount Sinai West) in New York, NY, followed by a fellowship in medical oncology and hematology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. From July 2012 to May 2015, Dr Jhaveri served as an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at New York University and as an attending physician at NYU Langone Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital.
Her research focuses on developing improved therapies for patients with breast cancer through innovative clinical trials integrated with translational biomarker studies, including analyses of acquired biospecimens (cell-free DNA and tumor tissue) and advanced imaging techniques. Dr Jhaveri has led the development of multiple targeted therapies, including but not limited to PI3K/AKT inhibitors, FGFR inhibitors, ERBB2 inhibitors, novel endocrine agents, KAT6 inhibitors, selective cell cycle inhibitors, and ADCs, among others. Dr Jhaveri’s recent work is centered on integrating diagnostic and therapeutic approaches through companion imaging strategies, including radioligand-based platforms that align biomarker detection with targeted treatment. As these approaches continue to be validated, her work has the potential to inform drug development strategies across oncology. Her research is supported by multiple funding sources, including the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the Manhasset Women’s Coalition Against Breast Cancer, Fred’s Team, and other Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center institutional grants.
Dr Jhaveri serves as a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology TAPUR Molecular Tumor Board and as cochair of the Endocrine Resistance Working Group within the Translational Breast Cancer Research Consortium. Her work has been widely presented at major scientific meetings, including those of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research, the European Society for Medical Oncology, and the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium.
