Thomas P. Lodise, PharmD, PhD

Thomas P. Lodise, PharmD, PhD, is a professor of pharmacy practice at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, where he is also the inaugural Rudolph and Dorothy Blythe Endowed Research Chair for Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. In addition, he is an infectious diseases clinical pharmacy specialist at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, NY.

Dr Lodise received his PhD from the University at Albany in NY and his PharmD from Temple University School of Pharmacy in Philadelphia, PA.

With more than 25 years of experience in infectious diseases clinical care and research, Dr Lodise is internationally recognized for his expertise in antimicrobial resistance, pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, clinical trial design, comparative effectiveness research, and health outcomes research.

Dr Lodise’s research integrates pharmacometrics, clinical outcomes research, and epidemiology to improve the treatment of patients with antimicrobial-resistant infections. His work focuses on developing personalized treatment strategies that improve outcomes, minimize drug-related toxicity, limit the emergence of resistance, and improve health care delivery. Dr Lodise’s research has contributed to 2 major changes in antimicrobial practice: the widespread adoption of prolonged β-lactam infusions and the transition to vancomycin area under the curve–guided dosing and monitoring.

He serves as pharmacokinetics scientific lead for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Antibacterial Resistance Leadership Group and on the United States Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing Executive Committee. He is also a scientific editor for Pharmacotherapy and serves on several journal editorial boards.

Dr Lodise has authored more than 250 peer-reviewed publications, with an h-index of 70 and more than 22,000 citations. In 2025, he received the ASHP Foundation Literature Award for Sustained Contributions in recognition of his contributions to the biomedical literature.
