Aaron T. Gerds, MD, MS, is an associate professor of medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and deputy director for Clinical Research at the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute. He also serves as deputy associate director for clinical research at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Dr Gerd’s clinical and research efforts focus on optimizing existing therapies and advancing new treatments for patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms and other myeloid malignan-cies. He is an active clinical trialist and national leader in myeloproliferative neoplasm re-search, with work published in journals that include The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Nature Medicine, and Blood.
Known for blending clinical insight with editorial storytelling, his writing often explores the in-tersection of medicine, technology, culture, and the human side of hematology. In addition to his scientific work, his editorial writing has received national recognition, including a 2026 Communicator Award for “Fax Machines, Hockey Sticks, and AI: How Health Care Can Evolve With Technology.”
Dr Gerds is the principal investigator of the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center’s National Cancer Institute Lead Academic Participating Site (LAPS) grant. He is also the immediate past editor in chief of ASH Clinical News, currently serves as the hematologic oncology asso-ciate editor for the ASCO Educational Book, and chairs the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Myeloproliferative Neoplasms Guidelines Panel.
