Adam M. Brufsky, MD, PhD, is a professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He also currently serves as codirector of the Cancer Therapeutics Program at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Pittsburgh, PA.


Throughout Dr Brufsky’s 30-year career at the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, he has held multiple senior leadership positions, including associate division chief, associate director for clinical investigation, associate director for translational investigation, associate director for strategic relationships, and codirector of the Comprehensive Breast Cancer Program.


Dr Brufsky received an AB degree in chemistry (cum laude) from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. He earned his MD and PhD in developmental biology at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, CT. He was an intern and resident in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA. Dr Brufsky then completed a fellowship in medical oncology and bone marrow transplantation at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, where his appointments included associate physician and instructor in medicine.


He is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr Brufsky is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Association for Cancer Research. He has authored or coauthored more than 400 peer-reviewed abstracts and research articles in leading journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of Clinical Investigation, the Journal of Clinical Oncology, and The Lancet Oncology. Dr Brufsky is the principal investigator for a number of research grants funded by the National Institutes of Health, Susan G. Komen, and the US Army Breast Cancer Research Program.
