Beatrice P. Concepcion, MD

Beatrice P. Concepcion, MD, is a transplant nephrologist and professor of medicine in the Section of Nephrology at The University of Chicago. She also serves as medical director of the Kidney Transplant Program and practice chair of the Transplant Institute.

In 2004, Dr Concepcion received her medical degree from the University of the Philippines Manila. She pursued further training in internal medicine and nephrology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL, and completed a fellowship in transplant nephrology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN, in 2011.

As medical director of The University of Chicago’s Kidney Transplant Program, Dr Concepcion actively works with the multidisciplinary team to maintain excellent patient outcomes and patient satisfaction, and to foster growth and innovation. She is a busy clinician caring for kidney transplant recipients and evaluating recipient and living donor candidates. In addition to her administrative and clinical responsibilities, she is actively involved in the education of fellows and residents.

Dr Concepcion’s research interests are focused on increasing access to kidney and pancreas transplant and improving the clinical and patient-centered outcomes of kidney and pancreas transplant recipients. She actively participates in important multicenter clinical trials as a site principal investigator. Her academic work has been published in several high-impact nephrology and transplantation-focused journals.

She has served on numerous national committees and workgroups, including as chair of the National Kidney Foundation Health Equity Advisory Committee, a member of the American Society of Nephrology Policy and Advocacy Committee, and a member of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network Kidney Transplantation Committee. Dr Concepcion is also a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology and the American Society of Transplantation.
