Charu Aggarwal, MD, MPH, FASCO

Charu Aggarwal, MD, MPH, FASCO, is the Leslye M. Heisler Professor for Lung Cancer Excellence and section chief of Thoracic and Head and Neck Cancers in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, she is physician leader of the Airways Malignancies Research Program and director of the Precision Oncology Program at Penn Center for Cancer Care Innovation.

In her roles, Dr Aggarwal is actively involved in developing, implementing, and advancing strategic and operational precision medicine initiatives with a focus on those that involve bringing new technologies or approaches to clinical care and that ultimately deliver on the promise of personalized cancer therapy.

Dr Aggarwal specializes in the care of patients with lung cancer, with a specific clinical research focus on the development of personalized therapeutic approaches and the discovery and application of biomarkers to guide treatment. She is a world-renowned expert in the application of plasma-based gene sequencing in the treatment of patients with metastatic lung cancer and is actively working on the implementation of comprehensive testing and the discovery of approaches focusing on early detection, the detection of resistance mutations, and disease monitoring.
