David M. Lang, MD, served as chair of the Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Cleveland Clinic from 2002 to 2022 and on the Cleveland Clinic staff until 2025. He is also past president of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.


Dr Lang received his MD from the University of Michigan, and he completed internal medicine training at Henry Ford Hospital, his allergy and immunology fellowship at Scripps Clinic, and his medical education fellowship at Cleveland Clinic.


He has carried out a number of research projects, including studies of chronic urticaria, aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease, asthma, anaphylaxis, and drug allergy. He has published more than 180 peer-reviewed manuscripts in a variety of journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice, Allergy, Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, and Allergy and Asthma Proceedings.


Dr Lang has chaired or served on numerous American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology committees/task forces, formerly served as cochair of the Joint Task Force on Practice Parameters, and was a member of this task force from 2001 to 2018. He has also served on the National Quality Forum Primary Care and Chronic Illness Standing Committee and as cochair of its Pulmonary and Critical Care Standing Committee. He currently serves on the World Allergy Organization Board of Directors and the Global Asthma Association INTERASMA Board of Directors.


Dr Lang’s medical career has been supported by his wife Marjory and his children Madelyn and Jonathan. He appreciates support from family, friends, and colleagues, and is grateful for opportunities to contribute to the field of allergy and clinical immunology.
