Elizabeth I. Buchbinder, MD, is a senior physician and medical oncologist at the Melanoma Treatment Center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA, specializing in the treatment of melanoma. She is also an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr Buchbinder received her training at Tufts University School of Medicine and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, both in Boston.

In addition to treating patients, Dr Buchbinder performs clinical and translational research to help further melanoma treatment. Her primary areas of research are in immunotherapy and novel targeted therapy approaches. She has particular interest in rare forms of melanoma, including mucosal melanoma and uveal melanoma.

Advancements in immunotherapy have changed the way we treat melanoma. However, not all patients respond, and there remains a huge need to continue exploring next steps in immunotherapy, how best to treat side effects, and how best to sequence therapies. Dr Buchbinder is involved in numerous immunotherapy clinical trials and translational projects. She serves as a liaison to the phase 1 group and the cell therapy group at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and she leads several phase 1 trials testing new immunotherapies, cellular therapies, and targeted therapies.
