Irene M. Ghobrial, MD, is the senior vice president for experimental medicine, director of the Center for Early Detection and Interception of Blood Cancers, Lavine Family Chair for Preventative Cancer Therapies, co-leader of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center Lymphoma and Myeloma Program, director of the Ghobrial Lab, and professor of medicine at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA.


Dr Ghobrial earned her medical degree from Cairo University School of Medicine in Egypt. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, and a hematology/oncology fellowship at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science in Rochester, MN, before joining Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in 2004.


Her research focuses on early screening, the identification of novel biomarkers of disease progression, and the development of therapeutic interceptions in premalignant conditions. Dr Ghobrial leads translational studies to define genomic and immune mechanisms of disease progression from precursor multiple myeloma and clinical trials to intercept disease progression.
