J. Andrew Bird, MD, is a professor of pediatrics and internal medicine in the Division of Allergy and Immunology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he holds the George L. MacGregor Professorship in Pediatrics. He is also director of the Center for Food and Drug Allergy at Children’s Health in Dallas, TX.
A board-certified allergist and immunologist, Dr Bird completed his pediatrics residency and his allergy and immunology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine and a clinical research fellowship in food allergy at Duke University before joining UT Southwestern in 2009.
Dr Bird’s clinical and research work focuses on the diagnosis, management, and treatment of food allergies, including oral food challenges, immunotherapy, and biologic therapies. He has served as an investigator for more than 30 interventional clinical trials and has authored more than 100 publications, including national and international guidance on conducting oral food challenges. Dr Bird currently chairs the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Allergy and Immunology Executive Committee, and he previously chaired the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Adverse Reactions to Foods Committee.
