Jamile M. Shammo, MD, FASCP, FACP, is professor of medicine and endowed chair at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL. In her current position, she spearheads the myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) and bone marrow failure programs.


Dr Shammo earned her medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Aleppo in Syria, after which she completed residencies in anatomic and clinical pathology, as well as in internal medicine, at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. She then completed a 3-year fellowship in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Chicago.


She is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, as well as in hematology. She is a fellow of both the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the American College of Physicians.


Dr Shammo has actively participated as a principal investigator for multiple clinical trials that have led to the US Food and Drug Administration approval of several agents in myelodysplastic syndromes, MPN, and paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria. She has also designed and conducted several investigator-initiated trials in her area of expertise. In addition, she has authored and contributed to more than 100 publications, including abstracts, posters, original papers, and book chapters. She has served as a reviewer for several medical journals, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology and Blood. As an invited speaker, Dr Shammo has lectured at national and international meetings and conferences.
