Joshua M. Thurman, MD, is the Temple Hoyne Buell Professor of Medicine in the Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He has been a faculty member at the University of Colorado since finishing his fellowship there in 2003.
Dr Thurman’s clinical focus is on the treatment of patients with autoimmune kidney disease, and he has been involved in clinical trials of new treatments for these diseases. His research laboratory, which has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health since 2003, studies the underlying causes of autoimmunity and inflammation of the kidney. Dr Thurman has developed several novel anti-inflammatory therapeutic agents. His laboratory has also created new methods for monitoring tissue inflammation, including magnetic resonance imaging– and positron emission tomography–based probes.
