Marc E. Agronin, MD, is currently the chief medical officer for the Frank C. and Lynn Scaduto MIND Institute and for Behavioral Health at Miami Jewish Health, where he has worked since 1999. Dr Agronin is also an affiliate associate professor of psychiatry and neurology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.


He is a graduate of Harvard University (summa cum laude) and Yale School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in adult psychiatry at Harvard Medical School's McLean Hospital, followed by a geriatric psychiatry fellowship at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center.


Dr Agronin is a board-certified adult and geriatric psychiatrist, as well as a national expert on Alzheimer’s disease and other geriatric mental health issues. He is the author of the acclaimed books The End of Old Age: Living a Longer, More Purposeful Life (2018) and How We Age: A Doctor’s Journey Into the Heart of Growing Old (2011), in addition to hundreds of articles and 8 other books, including the second edition of Principles and Practice of Geriatric Psychiatry (2011) and The Dementia Caregiver: A Guide to Caring for Someone With Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Neurocognitive Disorders (2015). Dr Agronin has also been published in The New York Times and writes articles on aging-, health-, and retirement-related issues for The Wall Street Journal.


He is the 2022 recipient of the Aging Life Care Association Distinguished Ambassador in Aging Award and the 2008 recipient of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP) Clinician of the Year Award. He is a distinguished fellow of both the American Psychiatric Association and the AAGP, and he is past president of the AAGP.
