Marwan Noel Sabbagh, MD, FAAN, is the Moreno Family Chair for Alzheimer's Research and professor and vice-chair of research in the Department of Neurology at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, AZ. He also serves as associate program director for research for the Neurology Residency Program.
Dr Sabbagh earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and his medical degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson. He received his residency training in neurology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, and completed his fellowship in geriatric neurology and dementia at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, where he served on the faculty as assistant professor.
Before joining the faculty at the Barrow Neurological Institute, he held the Camille and Larry Ruvo Endowed Chair for Brain Health and was the director of the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas and the founding principal investigator of the National Institutes of Health–funded Nevada Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. From 2000 to 2015, he was the director of the Banner Sun Health Research Institute in Sun City, AZ. From 2015 to 2018, he was the Karsten Solheim Endowed Chair for Alzheimer’s Research at the Barrow Neurological Institute.
Dr Sabbagh is a board-certified neurologist and geriatric neurologist who has dedicated his career to finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease and other age-related neurodegenerative diseases. He is a leading investigator for many prominent national Alzheimer’s disease treatment trials.
He is on the editorial boards for the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease and Alzheimer’s & Dementia: Translational Research & Clinical Interventions , and he is editor in chief of Neurology and Therapy . He has authored or coauthored more than 430 medical and scientific articles on Alzheimer’s disease research.
