Mothaffar F. Rimawi, MD, FACP, is a professor of medicine at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), where he also serves as executive medical director and associate director for clinical affairs at the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center. Additionally, he is the Philip A. Salem, M.D. Chair in Cancer Research at the Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center.
Dr Rimawi received his medical degree from The University of Jordan School of Medicine. Afterward, he completed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at BCM, where he also completed a fellowship in breast oncology and translational research.
His research focuses on translational clinical trials, drug development, and biomarker discovery. His work helped develop dual HER2 inhibition, the concurrent targeting of ER and HER2, and treatment deescalation in HER2+ breast cancer.
Dr Rimawi is codirector of the BCM Specialized Program of Research Excellence in Breast Cancer and serves in multiple national leadership roles. For example, he serves as vice chair of the NRG Oncology Breast Cancer Committee, as cochair of the Translational Breast Cancer Research Consortium HER2 Resistance Working Group, and as a member of the National Cancer Institute Breast Cancer Steering Committee.
