Pietro A. Canetta, MD, MS, is an associate professor of medicine in the Division of Nephrology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Among his other academic roles, Dr Canetta is the training program director of the Nephrology Fellowship Program at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and is vice chair of one of the medical center’s institutional review boards.


He received his undergraduate degree at Yale University and his medical degree at Columbia University, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He remained at Columbia for his residency and his fellowships in nephrology and glomerular disease, and he obtained a master of science degree in biostatistics from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.


Dr Canetta's clinical and research interests are focused on glomerular diseases. He is an investigator in several clinical and translational studies on a variety of glomerular diseases, including IgA nephropathy, membranous nephropathy, focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, C3 glomerulopathy, and lupus nephritis.
