Dr Kane's specialty is inflammatory bowel disease. Her interest in quality came from her research in patient outcomes, which led to her becoming the associate practice chair and then the quality chair, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She joined the Mayo Clinic Quality Academy, where she reviewed projects for Silver credit and established the quality improvement curriculum for fellows. In February 2020, she was selected as the chair of the Mayo Clinic Quality Academy Fellows Subcommittee. She will be transitioning out of that role in 2024, as she is also currently the chief patient experience officer for Mayo Clinic Enterprise.
