Zelma C. Chiesa Fuxench, MD, MSCE, FAAD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Dermatology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.


Dr Chiesa Fuxench has a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of adult patients with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (AD) and is currently spearheading efforts to develop a specialty program at the University of Pennsylvania focusing on adult patients with this complex disease.


She has received funding through the National Institutes of Health (pharmacoepidemiology training grant), the National Psoriasis Foundation, the Women’s Dermatologic Society, and the Dermatology Foundation. More recently, Dr Chiesa Fuxench was the recipient of a K23: Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award to examine FLG pathogenic variants in Hispanic/Latino patients with AD. She has also collaborated with the National Eczema Association and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America and is involved in multiple clinical trials for AD as the principal investigator.


Dr Chiesa Fuxench has recently been published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Archives of Dermatological Research, the British Journal of Dermatology, the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, the International Journal of Dermatology, Clinics in Dermatology, and the Journal of Dermatological Treatment.
