Philip A. Philip, MD, PhD, FRCP, is a professor of oncology and pharmacology and the Kathryn Cramer chair in cancer research at the Wayne State University School of Medicine and the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit, MI. He is the director of gastrointestinal and neuroendocrine oncology at the Karmanos Cancer Centre and vice president of medical affairs at the cancer hospital. He also heads the pancreatic cancer subcommittee at the Southwest Oncology Group. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in medical oncology. Dr Philip’s primary focus is on translational research and new drug development in pancreatic cancer. He has been a principal investigator on many phase 1-3 studies. He is also a member of the scientific advisory board for the Pancreatic Action Network (PanCan). He belongs to several professional organizations including the American Pancreatic Association, American Association for Cancer Research, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He has authored over 200 publications that include peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and invited review articles and has also co-edited a book on pancreatic cancer. Philip is a graduate of University of Baghdad College of Medicine, and he earned a PhD in Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacogenetics from University of London. He trained in oncology at the University of Oxford and the MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is also a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in the United Kingdom.
