Dr Jeremie Calais, MD, PhD, is a nuclear medicine physician specializing in cancer imaging and theranostics. He serves as the director of the theranostics and clinical research programs and as an associate professor in the Ahmanson Translational Theranostics Division, Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology, at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he has been since 2016.


Dr Calais completed his training in France; he earned his doctor of medicine degree from Paris Diderot University; completed his residency at the Henri Becquerel Cancer Center, the University of Rouen; and completed his fellowship at the Xavier Bichat University Hospital. He also obtained his master of science, doctor of philosophy, and accreditation to supervise research degrees from Paris-Saclay University.


He has established a clinical theranostics research program at UCLA that combines academic investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored studies using targeted radionuclide imaging and therapy. Dr Calais is a certified principal investigator by the Association of Clinical Research Professionals. His goal is to improve the outcomes of patients with cancer through theranostic approaches and the application of knowledge gained from preclinical models and clinical studies.


Dr Calais is an associate editor of The Journal of Nuclear Medicine and a faculty board member of multiple organizations and committees, including the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center at UCLA, the Institute for Urologic Oncology at UCLA, the Physics and Biology in Medicine Graduate Program at UCLA, the Society of Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging Correlative Imaging Council, the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Prostate Theranostics and Imaging Centre of Excellence, the SWOG Cancer Research Network, and the Oncidium Foundation.
