Michael H. Weisman, MD, has recently retired from his prior appointment as chief, Division of Rheumatology, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and is now adjunct professor of medicine, Division of Rheumatology and Immunology, Stanford University School of Medicine; Distinguished Professor of Medicine Emeritus, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA; Professor of Medicine Emeritus, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center; and Professor of Medicine Emeritus, UC San Diego School of Medicine. Dr Weisman attended medical school at The University of Chicago; completed his internship, residency, and fellowship in rheumatology at UC San Diego School of Medicine; and performed 2 years of active military service as LCDR, MC, USN at Camp Pendleton, CA.


Dr Weisman's academic and research interests involve genetic and environmental risks, epidemiology, treatment, and outcome of chronic rheumatic diseases. He has published more than 500 peer-reviewed papers and has edited 12 books on rheumatic diseases.


His current activities include editing the newest (9th) edition of the textbook Rheumatology, and he is the series editor of Rheumatic Disease Clinics of North America and an associate editor of Arthritis Care & Research. His honors include being named a master of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), receiving the ACR Excellence in Investigative Mentoring Award and Distinguished Service Award, and being recently chosen as a "Master Clinician" by The Rheumatologist.


Dr Weisman is currently far from retirement and remains active in the field of rheumatology. He has a permanent membership in the National Institutes of Health AMSC study section and is a member of the US Food and Drug Administration Arthritis Advisory Committee.
