Ramez N. Eskander, MD, is a clinical professor of gynecologic oncology at the University of California (UC), San Diego Moores Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute–designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. He also serves as the Clinical Trials Office director for oncology at UC San Diego Health and Moores Cancer Center and is the gynecologic oncology fellowship director.
Dr Eskander completed a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at UC Irvine School of Medicine and a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where he also earned his medical degree.
He specializes in the management of ovarian, uterine, cervical, vulvar, and vaginal cancers. His expertise includes clinical trials and drug development, precision medicine, biomarker-directed therapy, and therapeutic/surgical procedures. Dr Eskander is an experienced clinical trialist with more than 14 years of experience in both the development of early- and late-stage clinical trials and the conduct and completion of gynecologic cancer studies. He currently leads several international clinical trials examining novel therapeutic strategies in the management of gynecologic malignancies.
As an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at UC San Diego School of Medicine, Dr Eskander instructs medical students, residents, and fellows. His research focuses on immunotherapy, targeted therapies, cell therapy, novel drug combinations, epigenetics, and molecular diagnostics.
Dr Eskander has coauthored more than 130 peer-reviewed articles and several book chapters, and he is the coeditor of Gynecologic Oncology: A Pocketbook. His work has been published in journals that include The New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Nature Medicine, the Annals of Oncology, Clinical Cancer Research, JAMA Oncology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Gynecologic Oncology, among others. Dr Eskander’s work has helped established a new standard of care in the treatment of patients with advanced-stage and recurrent endometrial cancer.
