Floortje J. Backes, MD

Floortje J. Backes, MD, is a tenured professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James).

Dr Backes is fully committed to providing the best care for her patients through a combination of excellent clinical care and the development of and collaboration on clinical trials and translational research, in order to give her patients opportunities for and access to improved and novel treatments to reach their personal goals. She has a strong interest in the development of novel therapies for gynecologic cancers and clinical trials, and she has experience in developing and leading clinical trials at her institution and nationally.

She serves on multiple national committees for the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, NRG Oncology, and the International Gynecologic Cancer Society. Dr Backes is the director of research for the Division of Gynecologic Oncology and leader of the Disease Specific Research Group for the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, for which she is in charge of managing the research portfolio. As the former fellowship program director and the current associate program director for gynecologic oncology, she enjoys optimizing education for fellows, residents, and her peers.
