Joseph A. Sparano, MD, FACP, FASCO, is the Ezra M. Greenspan, MD Professor in Clinical Cancer Therapeutics, chief of the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology, and associate director of clinical research operations at the Mount Sinai Tisch Cancer Center at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, NY.


Dr Sparano is a medical oncologist whose research has focused on the clinical application of biomarkers in breast cancer and the developmental therapeutic approaches for breast cancer, lymphoma, and HIV-associated cancers. He currently serves as deputy chair of the ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group and as principal investigator and group chair of the Consortium for Advancing Management and Prevention of Cancer in People with HIV, and he currently receives funding from the National Cancer Institute, the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.


He is a prior recipient of the Giants of Cancer Care Award, the American Association for Cancer Research–Joseph H. Burchenal Award for Outstanding Achievement in Clinical Cancer Research, the American Society of Clinical Oncology Gianni Bonadonna Breast Cancer Award, the American Association for Cancer Research San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium William L. McGuire Memorial Lecture Award, the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology Charles G. Moertel Lectureship Award, the Montefiore Health System President’s Award, the ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group Young Investigator Award, and the American Cancer Society Career Development Award.
