Mark A. Socinski, MD

Mark A. Socinski, MD, is executive medical director of the AdventHealth Cancer Institute in Orlando, FL, and a member of the Institute’s Thoracic Oncology Program.

Dr Socinski earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont, and he completed his residency in internal medicine at Harvard Medical School and a fellowship in medical oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He was formerly a professor of medicine and cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, and he previously served as cochair of the National Cancer Institute Thoracic Malignancies Steering Committee.

He is a board-certified, fellowship-trained medical oncologist specializing in all thoracic malignancies, including non–small cell and small cell lung cancers and mesothelioma. He is an internationally recognized expert in the development of novel chemotherapy agents and treatment strategies for advanced non–small cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer. His research has focused on incorporating personalized medicine and novel therapeutics into the treatment of lung cancer.

Dr Socinski is a prolific author, with more than 340 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 16 book chapters, 27 monographs, and more than 300 abstracts and posters to his credit. He is involved in multiple clinical trials as principal investigator, as well as chairing steering committees and data and safety monitoring boards. He has been honored as one of Castle Connolly's "America’s Top Doctors" since 2001.
